Perfectionism and its Enemies

The concept of perfectionism has always existed, but the use of the word is recent. This ar ticle distinguishes word from concept. Similarly, this article also distinguishes the word “antiperfectionism” from its concept. Two types of perfectionism are examined: one more extreme, one more moderate. John Finnis’s point of view is adopted as a guide throughout. Answers and criticisms to perfectionism are also considered in this article. For this purpose, John Stuart Mill’s theory is adopted as a starting-point. Finally, the article includes an assessment of perfectionism.Downloads
